Weer een aantal documentaires gekeken op Netflix:
Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief
Gibney profiles eight former members of the Church of Scientology, whose most prominent adherents include A-list Hollywood celebrities, shining a light on how the church cultivates true believers, detailing their experiences and what they are willing to do in the name of religion. This powerful new film highlights the Church’s origins, from its roots in the mind of founder L. Ron Hubbard to its rise in popularity in Hollywood and beyond. The heart of the film is a series of shocking revelations by former insiders, including high-ranking and recognizable members such as acclaimed screenwriter Paul Haggis (“Crash”), as they describe the systematic history of abuse and betrayal by Church officials, including the current leadership of the Church.
Interessante documentaire. Soms moeilijk voor te stellen dat sommige mensen jaren blindelings alles maar volgden en geld gaven en nu pas hun ogen openen over hoe de church of scientology nu eigenlijk in elkaar zit. Cijfer: 7.
The Pixar Story
A look at the first years of Pixar Animation Studios – from the success of “Toy Story” and Pixar’s promotion of talented people, to the building of its East Bay campus, the company’s relationship with Disney, and its remarkable initial string of eight hits. The contributions of John Lasseter, Ed Catmull and Steve Jobs are profiled. The decline of two-dimensional animation is chronicled as three-dimensional animation rises. Hard work and creativity seem to share the screen in equal proportions.
Leuke documentaire over pixar. Ik heb al een keer de korte documentaire gezien maar deze is uitgebreider en gaat meer in op de geschiedenis van pixar en de ‘battle’ tussen 2d en 3d. Cijfer: 8
Imagine being able to watch as Edison turned on the first light bulb, or as Franklin received his first jolt of electricity…For the first time, a film gives audiences a front row seat to a significant and inspiring scientific breakthrough as it happens. Particle Fever follows six brilliant scientists during the launch of the Large Hadron Collider, marking the start-up of the biggest and most expensive experiment in the history of the planet, pushing the edge of human innovation. As they seek to unravel the mysteries of the universe, 10,000 scientists from over 100 countries joined forces in pursuit of a single goal: to recreate conditions that existed just moments after the Big Bang and find the Higgs boson, potentially explaining the origin of all matter. But our heroes confront an even bigger challenge: have we reached our limit in understanding why we exist?
De documentaire kabbelt een beetje door en laat op een vrij standaard documentaire manier zien waarom iedereen zo enthousiast is over de Large Hadron Collider. Maar wel interessant om te weten. Cijfer: 7.
