Documentaires: Mission Blue, Black Fish & Planet Earth

Mission Blue
“60 years ago, when I began exploring the ocean, no one imagined that we could do anything to harm it,” says pioneering diver and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle. How wrong we were. In the time since her career began, the over harvesting of whales, sharks, and once reliable staples of the human diet has disrupted the food chain with impacts for species at all levels. Fertilizers from agricultural runoff have fed massive blooms of algae that choke off other forms of life. Pollution in the form of diluted chemicals as well as microscopic pieces of plastic and large items wreak havoc for fish, mammals, and birds alike. Even immaterial activities can have a negative impact: the deafening sounds of industry and sonar can cause injury and impede communication among whales and dolphins. This documentary traces Sylvia’s life of wonder and exploration, and her dedication to awakening the world to the need to give the ocean time and space to recover.

Cijfer: 8

Black Fish
Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several people while in captivity. Along the way, director-producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite compiles shocking footage and emotional interviews to explore the creature’s extraordinary nature, the species’ cruel treatment in captivity, the lives and losses of the trainers and the pressures brought to bear by the multi-billion dollar sea-park industry. This emotionally wrenching, tautly structured story challenges us to consider our relationship to nature and reveals how little we humans have learned from these highly intelligent and enormously sentient fellow mammals.

Indrukwekkende documentaire. Cijfer: 8

Planet Earth
David Attenborough celebrates the amazing variety of the natural world in this epic documentary series, filmed over four years across 64 different countries. Dazzling, state-of-the-art high-definition imagery highlights this breathtaking documentary series featuring footage of some of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders — from the oceans to the deserts to the polar ice caps.
Cijfer: 9.

I Shot The Band

I am one of the winners of the I Shot The Band contest. For this contest I had to choose one out of three bands and make a concept for a fotoshoot.

I chose the band New YX and made a concept with lights flashes, contrast, darkness, lightness, black/white, clouds that fall apart, smoke and frozen movement.

The fotoshoot is going to be next Saturday. On the 4rd of March there’s going to be an exhibition with the final work of the three winners of the contest. Also the three bands will perform that day. Location: Void – Amsterdam. More information on facebook:
